VANDERBIJLPARK. – With the first stage of the FIFA Soccer World Cup at an end, many supporters are saddened to see their favourite teams leave. One such team that will be missed in Vanderbijlpark is the Swiss. When asked how it felt to have the team residing with them, Andr├⌐ Joubert, General Manager of Hotel and Accommodation at Emerald Resort and Casino, said: “It was a great experience.”
The Swiss team stayed at the Emerald Resort and Casino in Vanderbijlpark for the first stage of the Soccer World Cup, but left for Switzerland after they failed to qualify for the quarter final round. With the departure of the Swiss, it will be possible for the public to reserve accommodation from the start of July.
“They are a very organized and disciplined team,” said Mr Joubert. The Swiss team had open training sessions where the public had a chance to ΓÇ£meet and greetΓÇ¥ with them.
However, due to the teamΓÇÖs busy schedules, they were unable to fully experience everything that Emerald had to offer, such as their game drives and casino.
During their stay, the team was greeted with special celebrations when they returned from a match and the Swiss flag was seen flying all around the Resort.
Some of the casinoΓÇÖs personnel attended the Switzerland and Honduras final group match, hoping that the Swiss would make it through to the next round.
Switzerland needed to score two goals against Honduras at the Free State Stadium on June 25 to progress to the next round. However, the match remained goalless on both sides and SwitzerlandΓÇÖs World Cup journey came to an end. Of the teams in group H, Spain and Chile made it through to the quarter finals.
Emerald Casino held a farewell dinner for the Swiss team before they departed.
The General Manager of the Riverside Hotel in Vanderbijlpark was not available for comment on the state of the C├┤te d’Ivoire team by the time of going to press. However, their World Cup ambitions also came to a halt after they failed to progress to the quarter finals.┬á
