The Sasolburg branch of the MOTHs will host an open evening on Tuesday July 6 to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Battle of Delville Wood.
There will be a short talk on the Battle of Delville Wood, which remains the most costly action the South African Brigade fought on the Western Front during World War 1. This will be given by AB Brink, whose grandfather was killed in this epic battle. South Africa lost 763 men during the action, while the total casualties were listed as more than 7 500 killed.
The meeting will take place at the Vaal Old Wheels Club in Sylviavale, Vanderbijlpark, starting at 19:00. Members of the public and, in particular ex-servicemen and their families, are invited to attend. Dress is casual and refreshments and snacks will be available.
