Bikers for Bandana Day a huge success

VANDERBIJLPARK. – For well-known publicist and socialite Edith Venter, helping to arrange the Emerald Resort and Casino’s annual Sunflower Bikers for Bandana Day event is much more than a job – it’s a labour of love.
For the second year, Venter’s agency Edith Unlimited was intimately involved in putting together this charity event at Emerald Resort & Casino on November 6 to help in the fight against leukaemia.
Venter says she was inspired by Sunflower Fund CEO Tina Botha, whose son Chris Corlett died of leukaemia in 2000. Chris’s painting “Sunflowers of Hope”, which he created shortly before his death, gave the fund its name.
“My admiration for Tina and what she does, and what she has been through what with the loss of her own son from leukaemia, is immense, so it has been a pleasure to become more involved. I was very touched when Tina asked if I was prepared to be an ambassador of the organisation, and I agreed happily,” says Edith.
Bikers for Bandana Day 2011 was a great day out for a great cause: bikers from all over Gauteng and other parts of the country converged on the Emerald to enjoy a day filled with cool music by live bands, a full buffet breakfast, beer tent, food stalls, a raffle to win a flat-screen TV, a Harley Davidson display and auction, kiddies’ entertainment and much more. A donation of R50 000 was made by Emerald Resort & Casino, and stall-holders also gave a pecentage of their WINS to the Sunflower Fund.
