Members of the SAPS Flying Squad descended on the Emfuleni Caravan Park in Vanderbijlpark on April 16 to join a reunion for all members who worked in the Vaal Rand Flying Squad since its establishment in 1993.
The day was kicked off by a short prayer from the Reverend Modau in honour of past and present Flying Squad members. Lt Col Mncedisi Mbala welcomed everyone to the event. Previous Flying Squad commanders told the men and woman that they had an important role to play in the fight against crime.
During the event, police officers who were members when Squad was born were recognized and received certificates.
The Flying Squad was established on July 17 of 1993. According to the police, members of the Flying Squad “provide a quick response to priority, serious and violent crimes in progress in an attemp to apprehend the suspect and to limit possible further danger to the victim.”
After the speeches the members gathered for a braai and drinks along the banks of the Vaal River in the Emfuleni Caravan Park.
