NATIONAL BUSINESS SUPPORT PROG. MAKING AN IMPACT

“Being part of the Legends Programme has totally transformed the way we run our business,” says Julie Hadley, co-founder of the organisation Heartfelt.

Julie is one of 65 business owners and community project leaders supported in 2011 by the Legends Programme, an award-winning national business development initiative funded by the Old Mutual Foundation. Her organisation Heartfelt, which she owns in partnership with Martha Letsoalo, is based in Makapanstad in the North-West Province. Heartfelt trains local women to design and sew hand-crafted brooches, Christmas decorations and other items from felt, which are sold and exported across the world.
“What makes Legends different,” says Julie, “is that it works with small business owners and entrepreneurs such as myself as well as with non-profit organisations and community projects all across the country, with the goal of helping participants attain new levels of success and sustainability.”
Sisters Faatimah and Zainab Paruk, co-founders of the fast-growing Durban-based catering company Chilli Chocolate Chefs, also seems to have found significant value in the business development programme.
“Without doubt, being a part of Legends has helped us transform Chilli Chocolate Chefs into a more organised, professional, confident and passionate business,” says Zainab.
According to programme participants, what sets Legends apart is the strong entrepreneurial focus that is backed up by practical business tools, training and mentoring.
Catherine Wijnberg, the programme originator and Director of Legends implementing-agency Fetola, explains: “We focus on interventions that make an immediate impact, and ensure that Legends delivers the tools and supports business-owners who really need to thrive.”

Vaaldriehoekers wat in fondswerwing en bemarking belangstel, word genooi na ‘n kursus in dié verband wat op Donderdag 23 Februarie by Solidariteit se hoofkantoor in Centurion aangebied word.
Die kursusaanbieder is mnr. Chris Windell wat 35 jaar ondervinding in die bemarking van skole, kerke, welsynorganisasies, tersiêre opleiding, nie-regeringsorganisasies en klubs het.
Sy hoofdoel sal wees om kursusgangers stap-vir-stap op te lei om hulle doelwitte te bereik.
“Deesdae vind welsynorganisasies, nie-regeringsorganisasies, skole, kerke – veral vir die welsynbeen – institute, klubs, en dies meer dit baie moeilik om kop bo water te hou ten opsigte van beskikbare fondse.
“Voeg daarby die regering wat subsidies besnoei en die prentjie lyk maar donker. Om nie eers te praat van die ekonomiese klimaat nie,” sê Windell.
Ten spyte hiervan is daar in 2009 bykans R4,5 biljoen aan sulke organisasies geskenk.
Hierdie geld het gekom van hoofsaaklik die korporatiewe sektor waarvan die top 100 maatskappye meer as R50 miljoen elk geskenk het.
Fondswerwers moet dus net weet hoe om die regte roetes te volg om die geld na hul organisasies te kanaliseer.
Chris Windell het reeds drie boeke die lig laat sien en met 300 seminare agter die blad, het hy heelwat raad vir fondswerwers.
Die kursus duur van 09:00 tot 15:00.

SASOLBURG. – Op 11 Februarie gaan motorfietsryers van oraloor op die dorp toesak vir ‘n dag vol motorfietspret. Sasolburg Tafelronde 41 bied sy eerste Oil Day-Jol aan en dit sal by die klubhuis op die ou skouterrein in die dorp gehou word.
Die dag skop om 10:00 af en hou aan tot hanekraai die volgende oggend. Alle geld wat op die dag gemaak word, gaan aan die DBV geskenk word.
Daar gaan heeldag musiek gemaak word, wat ‘n ruk-en-rol groep asook platejoggie insluit. Daar sal kosstalletjies, vermaak vir jonk en oud en dan natuurlik ook ‘n kontantkroeg wees (so los maar die koelhouers tuis). En asof dit nie klaar ‘n wenresep is vir ‘n lekker dag nie, gaan daar hope pryse en gelukkige trekkings wees. Alle motorfietsryers wat die dag bywoon, kry ‘n metaalwapen wat ingesluit is in die toegangsfooi.
So as jy ‘n volbloed motorfietsryer is, of net ‘n motorfietsgeesdriftige is, kom geniet die dag saam met Sasolburg Tafelronde 41 en help die DBV. Mense is welkom om stalletjies op die dag te kom opsit.

Nuwe Chevvie Sonic indrukwekkend

Mededinging is straf in die kompakte-luikrugmotor-segment, maar Chevrolet kom met ‘n groot aanslag in die mark as hy eersdaags die nuwe Chevrolet Sonic in Suid-Afrika bekend-stel. Ons het die geleentheid gehad om die motor reeds voor die bekendstelling te bestuur.

Die Sonic se stilering beïndruk uit die staan-spoor. Hy het ‘n sterk neus en ligte wat van die kant af veral aan die Lumina herinner, en ‘n vorm wat voorgee dat dit ‘n tweedeurmotor is, terwyl die agterdeure se handvatsels diskreet agter die deure in die bakwerk versteek is. Dit is van die kenmerke wat hierdie motor besonders maak. Effens getinte ruite verbeter die privaatheid van die agterste passasiers en 15″-allooivellings rond die prentjie af. En dit als in ‘n luikrug-motortjie!

In die kajuit beïndruk die nuweling verder. Die motor is verbasend ruim, selfs vir ‘n groot ou soos ek, en die stuurwiel kan verstel word vir optimale gemak. Die instrumentepaneel is vars, modern en sportief, met ‘n analoog toereteller en digitale spoedmeter.

Daar is elektriese ruite voor, elektries verstelbare spieëls, lugversorging, misligte en ‘n klankstelsel met Bluetooth, Aux- en USB-konneksies. Boonop het die Sonic spoedbeheer. Die spoedbeheer, klankstelsel en Bluetooth-telefoonstelsel kan alles vanaf die multifunksie-stuurwiel beheer word. Die voorste passasierlugsak kan ook afskakel vir ma’s wat ‘n babastoeltjie op die voorste sitplek wil vasmaak. Die bagasiebak bied oorgenoeg ruimte en bevat ook die vol-grootte-noodwiel.

In die verkeer bestuur die Sonic lekker lig, en selfs op die lang pad was die motortjie met sy spoedbeheerfunksie ‘n plesier om te ry. Die Sonic sal beskikbaar wees met enjins wat wissel van 1.2 tot 1.6 liter. Na gelang van die model wissel die gemiddelde brandstofverbruik tussen 5 liter en 7 liter per 100 km. Die motor is lewendig, en selfs die stadigste 1.2 “detuned”-model het ‘n topspoed van 162 km/h, meer as voldoende vir ‘n motor van dié grootte.

Die Sonic behoort van hierdie maand af in die mark beskikbaar te wees, net betyds vir ‘n lekker Kersgeskenk vir jouself, jou vrou of jou studentekind. Pryse is nog nie bekend nie, maar te oordeel aan die Sonic se prys in ander markte behoort hierdie ‘n luukse en ekono-miese waarde-vir-geld opsie te wees.

Die Chevrolet-kenteken is kleiner en meer diskreet as wat met sommige vorige modelle die geval is, maar Chevrolet gaan met hierdie produk breëbors rondloop. Daar’s in nuwe speler in die mark, en hy is Super-Sonic!

On Saturday night at the Sharpeville Hall, a man serving drinks to guests at a VIP table accidentally spilled glasses of juice onto Sedibeng Mayor Simon Mofokeng’s jacket. It appears that the waiter lost his footing as he made his way past the table.

At the time, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, Emfuleni Acting Mayor Sello Pitso and the Public Protector Thulisile Madonsela were seated next to Mofokeng, who had to be rushed to his Vanderbijlpark home to change.
Upon his return, Mofokeng made an announcement that the waiter should not worry. “Problems occur when the situation is conducive for them to be solved,” says Mofokeng, who assured guests and the waiter that he understands that the spillage was an accident.

MooiVaal Media het Saterdag sowat 60 adverteerders en ander kliënte na Carnival City geneem om die Boney M-vertoning te sien. Buiten dat die uitstappie aangebied is om adverteerders en medewerkers te bedank vir hul jaar se ondersteuning, kon adverteerders tydens die busrit ook meer hoor oor MooiVaal Media se nuwe publikasie, Sedibeng Ster, wat in Januarie die lig sien.

Women cast a wide net

The nationwide 16 Days campaign seeks to highlight the scourge of women and child abuse and runs annually from November 25. Police officers in Sebokeng came out in numbers to support the roadblock which saw several vehicles stopped and searched near the Masoheng robots. Senior members of the Sebokeng SAPS and traffic officers from the Emfuleni Local Municipality also made their presence felt as they pulled over motorists to check for roadworthiness, permits and licenses. One of the officers, Constable Maria Molefe called on all residents of Sebokeng and surrounding areas to do their part in curbing the spread of violence against women and children.

Again Vaal Weekly sports had an interview with the crowd’s favourite, Ndimande, a very sexy, hot young girl from Germiston. She stole the crowd’s hearts with her sexy body for which she claims to have worked very hard for.
