Children of Israel – Home of milk and maize

Children and administrators of the Ikageng Orphanage are seen here with M Property Practice staff members during the handover of the donation at the center’s premises in Vanderbijlpark on Thursday.

M Property Practice’s Moletsane says that the company’s corporate social investment programme has done a lot of work since its inception.  “This is part of our work and we would like to partner with you (Vaal Weekly) as to extend assistance to those who desperately need it,” he says. He adds that the representatives of the center were grateful for the donation and expressed gratitude for the special visit.  Ikageng, which is located in Frikkie Meyer Boulevard, is one of many organisations that take care of orphaned and vulnerable children.  In his comment, Moletsane also quoted the book of Psalms, Chapter 82, Verse 3 which says, “Defend the poor and the fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and the needy. Deliver the poor and the needy from the hand of the wicked.”

The Master of your journey is you!

The particular day was declared an academic day. All the church graduates were all armed with their Degrees, Honours and Master’s. Young people were also asked to wear their school uniform. This part of exercise was performed to encourage young people to be spiritually and academically educated. This event has helped the congregation to stick to their dream and pursue what they all along wanted to be. Pastor Thulani Munerenyu, the guest speaker tells the congregation that everyone has a dream, no one will live your dream if you dont.  Munerenyu quoted the book of Habakuk 2:2 that speaks about vision and trusting in God to fulfill it.
Munerenyu further says to young people especially, that their background has nothing to do with what they want to be. “And again it is vital for us to understand ourselves, in order to have a clear picture of where we are and where we are going,” says Munerenyu. Munerenyu says there are no excuses for young people not to study or blame their history and background. He concludes his speech by saying, “You are the master of your journey”
Another uplifting speech was made by a Psychology Honours Degree holder Saba Xaba who told young people to allow God to steer their lives. He says, “In life there is time for everything, you might be going through winter or autumn, but you should know that summer and spring is around the corner.” Xaba describes a dream as a goal without legs. He says in order to make your dream come alive, you need to have a purpose in life and pursue it no matter what.

East and West say our home is the best!

Members of a delegation from the Quzhou Municipal People’s Government in China are seen here with Zibambisene dancers, moments after their arrival at the Riverside Hotel in Vanderbijlpark on Monday.
Upon arrival, the Chinese delegation received a warm welcome in the form of a traditional dance which was beautifully executed by the members of the Zibambisene – a cultural group under the directorship of local musician Xoli Nosenga. Chaired by Emfuleni’s Communications Manager, Paseka Rakosa, the gathering saw MMC Sello Pitso and other officials sitting side by side with their colleagues from the Quzhou Municipal People’s Government.Mayor Hlongwane started proceedings by informing the visitors about plans to turn the Sedibeng District Municipality into a Metro by 2016.  Hlongwane also announced plans to work with the German government to create an industrial hub and the Regional Sewer Works Project, scheduled to start next year.
Following a brief welcoming message from Municipal Speaker Msebenzi Gqelosha, Emfuleni’s Deputy Municipal Manager for Economic Development and Planning Dr. Hein Wiese delivered a presentation which included the state of the local economy. Wiese noted that unemployment currently sits at 71.8% in Emfuleni.  “We have a dream of a big city with a bridge and a river,” says Wiese, turning the focus on the free land that is available for development in Emfuleni.

Wiese’s presentation also covered ways to grow the local economy including plans for a logistical hub.  “We are also looking into the purification of our water and hydro power generation,” says Wiese.  The mayor of the Quzhou Municipal People’s Government Shang Qing also spoke on behalf of his delegation which consisted of municipal officials and representatives from corporate companies back home in China.  Qing says, “We have a rich cultural background and our people work and study hard and they are friendly as well.  I wish for the two cities to work together.”  The meeting ended on a high note as members of both delegations exchanged gifts.Emfuleni has strong ties with the Eindhoven Municipality and recently this partnership led to joint programs in the South African municipality.  With talks that another Chinese municipality is due in the country on Wednesday, it is safe to say that Emfuleni takes direct foreign investment opportunities seriously.

Make it happen!

These little champions were given the crown of victory and they were also given certificates to celebrate their excellence and hard work.
“The success of this day would not have been possible without the parents’ support,” says the school headmaster Khulu Mntambo.
Even the school educators supported these children by wearing their graduation attire to motivate them.  Starting from lower grades (R to 3,) the school gave all the top learners certificates.
The top learner of each class was given a trophy and for the learner to keep it, he or she has to win it three times.
Parents were very impressed by the event and some of the children were happy to be named the best learner in their grades.
The senior learners in the school also received certificates and trophies for their hard work.
Some learners received certificates for participation in sports and culture to encourage them.

Rugby Fabriek goed ge-olie

Bikers for Bandana Day a huge success

VANDERBIJLPARK. – For well-known publicist and socialite Edith Venter, helping to arrange the Emerald Resort and Casino’s annual Sunflower Bikers for Bandana Day event is much more than a job – it’s a labour of love.
For the second year, Venter’s agency Edith Unlimited was intimately involved in putting together this charity event at Emerald Resort & Casino on November 6 to help in the fight against leukaemia.
Venter says she was inspired by Sunflower Fund CEO Tina Botha, whose son Chris Corlett died of leukaemia in 2000. Chris’s painting “Sunflowers of Hope”, which he created shortly before his death, gave the fund its name.
“My admiration for Tina and what she does, and what she has been through what with the loss of her own son from leukaemia, is immense, so it has been a pleasure to become more involved. I was very touched when Tina asked if I was prepared to be an ambassador of the organisation, and I agreed happily,” says Edith.
Bikers for Bandana Day 2011 was a great day out for a great cause: bikers from all over Gauteng and other parts of the country converged on the Emerald to enjoy a day filled with cool music by live bands, a full buffet breakfast, beer tent, food stalls, a raffle to win a flat-screen TV, a Harley Davidson display and auction, kiddies’ entertainment and much more. A donation of R50 000 was made by Emerald Resort & Casino, and stall-holders also gave a pecentage of their WINS to the Sunflower Fund.

Dr Verwoerd se hoof tree af

Mnr.
