ONDERWYSERS IS TE LUI OM TE WERK

ΓÇ£Verpleegsters is gevoelloos want hulle laat babas sterf terwyl hulle staakΓÇ¥.

Ons moet altyd krities na mense se optrede kyk, of dit nou verslaggewers of ministers is. Sef. 3:5; Joh. 5:30; 1 Pt. 2:23; Spr. 31:9; Jes. 5:23).

Sommige onderwysers is lui.

Does your will really say what you mean?

Wills often cause a problem if they are not worded clearly. Berrie Botha, chief executive of Sanlam Trust, explains the importance of a properly drawn-up will. Good intentions ΓÇô or the way in which we express them ΓÇô also play a role in the drafting of a will. Wills are known to have caused rifts in families, or resulted in someoneΓÇÖs children being estranged. Wills have even led to bitter lawsuits ΓÇô often because the person who died had not expressed his or her wishes clearly and unambiguously.

Consider this example. In his will, John wrote: ΓÇ£I bequeath my boat to my son and the remainder of my estate to my daughter.ΓÇ¥ The result is that his children, who have been at loggerheads since they were small, are at it again because the daughter believes the trailer for the boat belongs to her, as her father stipulated that everything except the boat was hers.
Your will should give you peace of mind. That is why it is vital that you understand the consequences of this document. Good intentions alone are simply not enough. Remember, it is your last wish on earth and therefore it is important for it to be practicable. In short, it must be worded in such a way that your intentions are very clear.
Another problem with regard to wills is that people often do not amend them ΓÇô just as if nothing has changed during their lives!
For example: A couple buys a house in a certain town and in his will the husband leaves the house to his wife (not the mother of his children): “I bequeath the house at 4 Hill Street in Heuweldorp to my wife ΓǪ and the remainder of my estate to my children.”
Shortly afterwards they sell the house and move to another town. The will remains unchanged.
The husband dies and his children, who never liked their stepmother, contend that the new house to which the couple had moved does not belong to the wife as their father had specifically left the old house in Heuweldorp to her, and not the new house. It is then up to the surviving spouse to prove that it was not the intention of the deceased to revoke the bequest and that she is entitled to the replacement house.
A few words ΓÇô an accurate description ΓÇô can therefore have a major impact on the consequences of your will. So donΓÇÖt underestimate the importance of your will. Rather take some time to get expert advice so your will is drawn up in such a way that there is no doubt about your real intentions.
Remember, you will no longer be there and your will must speak for you.

You might not be cut out for business – Mac

Mr Mac van der Merwe started out as a young Vaal Triangle entrepreneur many years ago and today owners and is CEO of the successful and highly respected Zorgvliet Group, which includes the luxurious Riviera Hotel on the banks of the Vaal River.
He admits, however, that he encountered many setbacks before he and his family could enjoy the sweet fruits of success.
This local legend was among the high-level speakers who shared their business experiences at the SMME conference presented by the Emerald Foundation and the Vaal Region Community Chest last week.

Van der Merwe says it is of paramount importance for any entrepreneur to have clear objectives about where they want to go. They need a sustainable business model – almost like a flight plan – about the results to which they aspire.
“Continuously measure your progress. Revisit your mistakes and work through them. That is how you gain worthwhile experience. By not accepting mistakes as defeat, you put yourself in a position to see new opportunities and gain valuable experience.”
This has been the model of his own life. “Working through the ups as well as the downs of cycles brought satisfaction and financial benefit. Today I realise that at those times when I got it wrong, it was because of an unclear ‘roadmap and flight plan’. There were no red lights to warn me that I was off course. When I got it right, I was clear in what I wanted to achieve and how to apply available resources productively and optimally,” he says.
He believes that successful people balance business and family. “Business is like a rubber ball: it can bounce back, but family is like a glass ball: it can break”.
Van der Merwe says anyone planning to start their own business should establish exactly why they want to be in business. Is it for the money and financial independence? Do they have a positive outlook and a desire to influence people? Do they want to be a leader in their community?
He says if you don’t have the drive to make money, to create wealth and to look after it, then rather leave the world of business.
You also need to have the desire to be a leader in your community – to carry the flag of prosperity and creation of wealth and employment.
You have to enjoy the stressful challenges brought on by being involved in your own business. “Life is all about enjoyment. In business, establish and target what you like to do best,” is his advice.
Zogvliet, which is a globally competitive business, is also a family business where various family members manage different business units.
“Each manager has to justify his position in the open market. It takes courage to challenge each family member to prove him or herself. It was very important to find out where each family member can add most value to the company,” says Van der Merwe.
“In a family business – as in every other business – unity of command is very important. Each unit must have only one manager who takes responsibility for his or her unit. As head of the family business you may not interfere in an individual family member’s unit. Leave it to each manager to take responsibility and make decisions in his or her own business unit. Another very important aspect in a family business is that there should be lots of appreciation for each other.”
Van der Merwe says since the credit crunch, the global economy is setting new standards and new challenges. “We’ll have to be able to compete on the international market otherwise we won’t succeed, but you can rest assured that there are big opportunities for small businesses.”

NWU en VUT weer bes bestuurde universiteite

VANDERBIJLPARK.

SMME conference was about helping Vaal

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The second Annual Vaal Region SMME Conference took place at the Emerald Resort and Casino last week. It consisted of presentations and workshops, as well as exhibitions at which various SMME service providers were on hand to answer questions and inform delegates about their services.

The conference was the initiative of the Emerald Foundation and the Vaal Region Community Chest, supported by various role players, including Vaalweekblad and Ster as the local print-media sponsors.
Ms Veronica Cronjé, director of The Vaal Region Community Chest, said this annual conference is about developing leaders in the economic sector who will become businessmen and women and who will, hopefully, grow their businesses, create jobs, generate wealth and, at the same time, be known for their integrity and commitment to the community at large.
“If we can get a circle of mentors in the business sector who are willing to help the next generation of small and medium enterprises grow and prosper, we would have helped people not only to help themselves, but helped others – and that is what Community Chest is all about,” said Ms Cronj├⌐.

Skoonmaak-aksies in Sasolburg

Mnr.

Mahindra Vaal nou in sakesentrum

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Mahindra (Vaal) se nuwe perseel in Vanderbijlpark se sakesentrum is onlangs amptelik ingewy te midde van groot belangstelling van plaaslike sakelui.

Volgens mnr.

Vaal water dangerous to humans

VEREENIGING. – Thousands of megalitres of raw sewage continue to flow unabated into the Vaal River.
The environmental pressure group SAVE (Save the Vaal Environment) has discovered that sewage, which is no longer leaking at pump stations near Vereeniging, is being channelled to the Rietspruit Water Works.

SAVE made this discovery during a recent “in situ” inspection of sewage works when it was found that the Rietspruit Works are not functional.
As early as 2008, SAVE had clinched an interdict against the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to stop a massive raw sewage spillage into the Vaal River from the Vereeniging infrastructure, which killed fish, birds and other animals.
According to SAVE chairman Advocate LΓÇ¥tter Wepener, recent water tests at the Rietspruit Works show that thousands of megalitres of raw sewage continue to flow into the Vaal River via the Rietspruit and Loch Vaal, causing further pollution, which is a serious health hazard to humans, fish and birds. He describes it as “a major ecological disaster”.
“SAVE plans to embark on yet a further court action against Emfuleni to rectify this problem and stop this criminal conduct,” he said in a press statement this week.
He says the Vaal River below Vereeniging is so polluted that “it is dangerous for any human being to have contact with the water”.
Thousands of rotting fish contribute to an increasing health risk. He reports that the stench of rotting fish and sewage is unbearable in certain areas.
“Emfuleni Municipality, which caused the spillage and resultant dead fish and other animals, was requested in 2008 to remove the dead fish and birds from the river and to give an undertaking that this would be done by the weekend of 6/7 December 2008. As Emfuleni still fail to act and take responsibility, SAVE will, once again, approach the High Court for assistance to prevent further pollution of the Vaal River,” says Wepener.
He advises-river users to be aware that the water will not be safe for a considerable period of time and that contact with the water is “dangerous to humans”.
“SAVE is also making contact with the Department of Water Affairs and Rand Water with an appeal to ΓÇÿflushΓÇÖ the barrage reservoire by opening more gates at the Vaal Barrage,” says Wepener.
Rotting fish in themselves create a further health problem. Raw sewage in the water is highly dangerous and can cause illnesses such as typhoid, cholera, dysentery, cryptosporidium cysts and giardia cysts. It also leads to the formation of cyano bacteria in the water which is an extremely toxic algae which can kill off both aquatic and bird life, as experienced over the past two weeks.
* On Friday September 17 SAVE, together with its local branch SAVE Parys, also obtained a court order in the High Court of Bloemfontein against the Ngwathi municipality. Judge Molemela ordered Ngwathi to stop the deliberate sewage spillage into the Vaal River that has been occurring unabated for some time.
The court order followed after it came to SAVEΓÇÖs attention that the Ngwathi municipality was pumping raw sewage into the Vaal River.

Spurs maak harte oop

VANDERBIJLPARK.

Entered because charity close to her heart

VEREENIGING. – Sixteen finalists recently competed for the Mrs Style SA crown on September 17 at the St George’s Hotel in Pretoria. Mrs Style is an annual event that is successfully run by Vaal Triangle-based “Models & Dance” Unlimited’s owner, Renita Lombard. This was the 11th year Mrs Style SA was held.

Erika Myburgh (39), a therapeutic reflexologist and mother of two, won the title this year. Runner-up was 49-year-old May van Rooyen, a salon owner and onyxcologist from Pretoria and second runner-up was Vereeniging beauty Hester de Klerk (27).
For the past four years, Hester has been a primary school teacher at Milton Primary School.
The finalists came mainly from Gauteng, as well as Witbank, Nelspruit, Luckhof, Bloemfontein and even from Hartbeespoort. To compete in this glamorous event requires each finalist to be involved in a charity project to help the needy and less fortunate. Hester de Klerk was involved with the Trentico Children’s Home, Irene Home for the Mentally Disabled, Catherine Robson Foster Care, pre-primary for HIV children and the Loula Fourie “plaas skool”.
Hester heard about the Mrs Style Competition at Models Unlimited where she herself is a model and, as charity is close to her heart, she decided to enter.
“I saw it as an opportunity to get more involved where help is needed,” she says. Hester is married and doesn’t have her own children yet, but her work keeps her busy. She has even taken one of her pupils, who was rejected by his family, under her wing.
She would like to encourage all women to get involved in charity work. “It doesn’t necessarily have to be something big, just as much as you can do and afford. Every little bit helps,” she says.
