Vetsug speel dalk rol by baarmoederkanker

More Gauteng clinics set to provide ARVs

VEREENIGING. – The number of clinics in Gauteng providing Anti-Retroviral (ARV) treatment to HIV-positive patients is set to increase to 61 this month. Health and Social Development MEC Qedani Mahlangu has ordered that all clinics should provide the treatment by September, in line with the new treatment guidelines that came into effect in April. ARV treatment was previously available in hospitals and community health centres.

ΓÇ£The provision of anti-retroviral therapy in clinics will make treatment easily accessible to the community and will contribute to the saving of lives,ΓÇ¥ says Mahlangu.
To date 295 785 (including 22 830 children) patients are currently on treatment in the province with about a million more having being assessed and will gradually be brought into the treatment programme.
In June over 30 more clinics (including one in Boipatong where treatment wasn’t previously available) started providing treatment. Treatment is also available in Bophelong and Sharpeville.

David’s Confession – the phenomenon is back

David’s Confession is the creation of renowned and award-winning singer/songwriter Mel Botes. It is a personal tribute to a man’s inner struggle with good and evil. Mel teamed up in early 1998 with the group Georgia, three Botha-brothers, namely Andries, Philip (Ghapi) and Conrad. Sun City took over the management of David’s Confession and appointed music maestro Johan Laas to produce and arrange the album.

This theatrical musical concept album ΓÇÿAbout TimeΓÇÖ was recorded 12 years ago over a seven-week period in Bob Studios and staged at Sun City.
The album was considered a major breakthrough and a phenomenon in the history of South African Rock music.
During the show’s two-year run in Sun City, DavidΓÇÖs Confession opened for well known international acts like Hootie and the Blowfish and Anna Vissi. They also performed live in front of Michael Jackson and had jamming-sessions with London-based players like the backing band for Sarah Brightman and Al Vosper, the guitarist for Chris de Burgh.
Mel explains: ΓÇ£Initially David was the central character of a book I deliberated over for 12 years. I never explored the possibility of publishing the book as it felt too personal. However, DavidΓÇÖs character was so strong and compelling that I felt forced to give him a voice ΓÇô hence, the lyrics illustrate DavidΓÇÖs exceptional journey.”
Now, after all these years, Mel and Ghapi (Philip Botha) decided to take this multi-dimensional music experience back to the stage. The music of DavidΓÇÖs Confession will finally be revived and relived in the form of two live shows only at EmperorΓÇÖs Palace ΓÇô Theatre of Marcellus on August 13 and 14. The band will include Mel Botes, Ghapi, Jon Delinger, Denny Lalouette, Mathys Maree, Simon Orange, Nathan Smith and a six-piece choir.
* Tickets are available from Computicket at R150 to R300. One lucky reader will win double tickets to the show at Emperor’s Palace. Just SMS the name of the show and your own name to 41913. SMSs cost R1-50. It should reach us not later than Friday.

Claims for damages against Council

VEREENIGING. – Desperate members of the members of the public want to know how to lodge damages claims against the Council of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, ELM. This follows damage sustained by vehicles that traverse potholes, complaints about non-working street lighting, accidents caused by motorists veering to avoid potholes, damages to pop-up garden sprays used to water sidewalks in front of houses, etc.

According to DA chief whip Jaco Karsten, claims should be lodged with the ELM Financial Department which has its own insurance wing.
This wing assesses a claim and, if approved, it is forwarded to the Claims Department.
Local authorities are liable for damages claims caused by failure to maintain municipal structures including roads, lights, etc.
Failure of a local authority to compensate a ratepayer due to claims of poverty could result in a court’s order of execution against a council, but what form such execution would take might vary between councils. A private individual stands to have property and possessions attached.
Councillor Karsten points out that damages claims against a municipality have been successful in the past and stresses that a local authority is legally liable. A press enquiry into the claims procedure was two weeks old by the time this was filed.

What a joke!” s╦å Jeanene.

Besige Stefan besoek VSA

VANDERBIJLPARK.

Persoonlikheid aangewys.

Emerald Cup event set to be best

The Emerald Cup, AfricaΓÇÖs richest race on sand, celebrates its seventh year of existence in September ΓÇô and this yearΓÇÖs event promises to be the best yet.

The Emerald Cup, a festival of racing that culminates in the race of the same name, is hosted by the Emerald Resort & Casino, Phumelela and the Racing Association.

It has grown since its inception into one of South AfricaΓÇÖs premier horse racing events, drawing thousands of spectators, and is unique in that it is the only racing event in the country that is specifically family-oriented.

The festival is preceded on Thursday, September 23, by a Racing Association golf day, as well as a World Series of Poker Africa Celebrity Poker Tournament for charity at the Emerald Resort & Casino.

Racing commences at the adjacent Vaal Racecourse with the traditional Little Hamptons Race Day on Friday, September 24, and the Emerald Cup Race Day on Saturday, September 25.

The actual 1 450m, Grade 2 Emerald Cup race, which with prize money of R660 000 is the richest horse race to be run on sand in Africa, draws the cream of South AfricaΓÇÖs trainers, jockeys and thoroughbreds. This year will be no exception, and punters can look forward to an exciting tussle for top honours.

Apart from all the thrilling action, spectators will be treated to live music performances, a childrenΓÇÖs entertainment area, guest artists and celebrities, on-course competitions with great prizes, glamorous fashion shows, the popular Mr and Miss Emerald Cup pageant, picnic sites and a beer garden, among other attractions.

In addition, the Emerald Cup weekend will be preceded by a special SMS competition, in which entrants stand to win a Chevrolet Spark 1.0 LS worth R98 000, a Zambian grass-green emerald worth R35 000, or a luxury weekend for two at the Emerald Resort & Casino worth R15 000. The competition will be run in conjunction with The Citizen newspaper between August 2 and September 10. The winners will be announced at the racecourse on Saturday, September 25.

ΓÇ£We have seen the Emerald Cup go from strength to strength since we launched the event in 2004, and it has become the leading family-focused event on the South African racing calendar ΓÇô not to mention one of the most eagerly-anticipated annual occasions in the Vaal Triangle,ΓÇ¥ says Emerald Resort & Casino CEO Martin Rice.

ΓÇ£I donΓÇÖt think anyone anticipated how popular the Emerald Cup would become, and so rapidly at that ΓÇô but then, the first-class entertainment and top-flight racing on offer is certainly a winning combination. ThereΓÇÖs something for everyone, and itΓÇÖs a fun day out that is not to be missed under any circumstances.ΓÇ¥

Entrance to the Emerald Cup is free.
