(i) tekste word buite verband aangehaal en dus verdraai;

(ii) ons sien nie raak dat begrippe nie in alle tekste noodwendig dieselfde beteken nie (ΓÇ£sielΓÇ¥ het bv. verskillende betekenisse);

(iii) ons besef nie dat die Bybel nie geskryf is met die doel om kitsoplossings vir alle probleme te gee nie;

(iv) die Bybel behandel nie tipiese hedendaagse probleme nie (bv. stamselnavorsing);

4 Jacks and a Jill is terug

Noem jy die naam 4 Jacks and a Jill, reageer mense dadelik.

SMS’e kos R1-50.

  • Hou jou testament so eenvoudig as moontlik.
  • As jou omstandighede egter ΓÇÿn ingewikkelde testament vereis, maak seker dat jy deskundige advies kry.
  • Maak seker jou testament is prakties uitvoerbaar.┬á Dis ΓÇÿn fout om jou testament te beskou as ΓÇÿn dokument wat eers in werking tree as jy oud is.┬á Jy is dalk nie so gelukkig nie.

The things workers would say to get out of work and watch the game

The World Cup is here and with it come record highs of national pride, fake illnesses and bought doctors’ notes! Independent Research agency Freshly Ground Insights recently conducted a survey in which 950 South Africans representing a cross section of the population were interviewed. In their results they concluded that about 45% of people in SA were prepared to create a fake illness so they could watch the game instead of going to work.

Some people claimed that they would buy a doctors note while others said they would pretend to have a family emergency or even say there was a death in the family. One man, who had clearly thought out how he would avoid work, said that he would claim an iron had burnt his son.

A shocking low 13% of the people in the survey said that they would sell their tickets or give them away if they could not get out of work, while a brave 7% said they would go to the game and deal with the consequences later.

“I’m suffering from madness” and “I would say there is a fire in the house,” are some of the excuses that people gave Freshly Ground Insights while others said that they would claim to be in hospital. A staggering two-percent of people said that if their boss did not allow them time off to go to the game, they would simply quit their job.

When Mooivaal Media conducted its own survey we received “excuses-advice” such as “You have a tooth infection and have a dental appointment. The dentist advised you to take the day off work because you are on meds,” from Mr EN; Ms VW claimed she would use her mother-in-law as an excuse and Matthew Tyack said: “I would tell my boss I had to appear in court for not paying fines, or that I won R50 000 in a competition; then when asked afterwards if I’d gotten the money, I’ll just tell him it was a scam or something. Or I would tell him someone drew money out of my account and I had to go to the bank during work hours to sort it out.”

Clearly everyone is on board with the World Cup and will do anything to get behind their team and support them. * Let’s just hope that those who do lie their way out of work do not end up on TV with a vuvuzela in one hand and an ice cold beer in the other!

Dutch help develop soccer talent

Megan McLean and Petro-Anne Morkel, a  Dutch soccer club is developing young soccer talent in the Vaal Triangle.
The Philips Sport Vereniging (PSV) Eindhoven Soccer Club has sent coaches to train children and their local coaches from June 18 to June 22. This is part of an exchange programme between the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) and the Eindhoven Municipality in the Netherlands.

“The future of South African soccer lies in training the youth,” said Sedibeng 2010 Task Team spokesperson Klaas Mofomme. “The current crop of players is getting old. We need to develop soccer at a grassroots level. If you teach them technical skills and know-how at a young age they improve and grow.”

The PSV coaches taught 10 local teams with 20 players each aged between nine and 15 at the COP Sports Complex in Vanderbijlpark. The teams were selected from Sharpville, Bophelong, Boiathong, Tshepiso, Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Evaton, Evaton West and Sebokeng.
After the Dutch coaches leave, local coaches will still benefit from this soccer development programme. Local coaches also received training on the technical aspects of the beautiful game.
“Local coaches should now be able to take these techniques forward,” said Mofomme.
This soccer programme forms part of a larger twinning between the two municipalities, which have had a relationship since 1999. According to Yvonne Blankwater, project manager for the City of Eindhoven, this relationship came into being after a Dutch NGO approached Eindhoven Municipality for assistance with its welfare programmes in Emfuleni.
PSV Eindhoven is one of three European Cup-winning soccer clubs in the Netherlands. Many famous soccer players, for example Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima, have used this club as a launching pad for their sporting careers.

The Swiss team arrives

(Reuters) – “Vuvuzela” trumpets blasted and flags flew proudly across South Africa on the eve of the continent’s first World Cup which Africans hope will transform negative global perceptions of them forever.

Sports

In hotels and training grounds across the vast and beautiful nation, players and coaches of the 32 competing nations had their eyes set on an equally lofty goal — lifting the globe’s most coveted sporting prize on July 11.

South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma unrealistically urged the local “Bafana Bafana” (The Boys) team to bring him the trophy. But the more likely benefit for the hosts is a lasting legacy of tourism, investment and greater social unity.

South Africa do, though, go into Friday’s opener against Mexico brimming with confidence after a 12-match unbeaten run.

The majority of 90,000 people in Soccer City will be backing Bafana Bafana with a cacophony of vuvuzelas that have already become a symbol of South Africa 2010.

“This is big history, I can’t believe it,” local fan Alice Satege said, shaking with tears as she cheered a team parade.

Pundits expect an exciting match from two sides better at going forward than defending. Uruguay face France in the second match of the 64-game tournament’s opening day.

Just reaching the second round — and not becoming the first host nation of a World Cup to go out at the start — would probably be triumph enough for lowly-ranked South Africa.

Other African nations like Ivory Coast and Ghana have much stronger sides, though the loss of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien respectively are a blow to their chances.

SPAIN, BRAZIL FIRM FAVOURITES

Few expect an end to Europe and South America’s stranglehold on the World Cup, with Spain and Brazil everyone’s favorites.

Argentina have arguably one of the most gifted sides, though their chances could depend on the chemistry between maverick manager Diego Maradona and brilliant forward Lionel Messi.

Usual wild expectations associated with England’s team of Premier League players are tempered this time round after some unconvincing friendlies and injuries to key players. But if they win their Group C, they have a kind draw to the semi-finals.

Former political prisoner and president, Nelson Mandela, 91, firmly intends to make an appearance at Friday’s opening match, hoping to inspire the nation as he did for the Rugby World Cup in 1995 that South Africa won.

The FIFA World Cup, he said in a statement, “symbolizes the power of football to bring people together from all over the world, regardless of language, the color of one’s skin, political or religious persuasion.”

World Cup chief Danny Jordaan told reporters the decision on whether Mandela would appear at Soccer City for South Africa’s encounter with Mexico, would depend on his health on the day.

“He intends to be there,” Jordaan said. “Whether he comes for five minutes or the whole match is not our decision.

“As things stand now there is a very good chance that he will be with us because he wants to be there.”

The party was to officially start on Thursday night with a concert in South Africa’s biggest township Soweto. Shakira, the Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys were in the lineup alongside a host of Africa’s best musicians.

OLD CARICATURES

Fed up with being associated endlessly with hunger, AIDS and crime, Africans are praying the month-long tournament will counter what they see as old caricatures in world media that fail to grasp the continent’s modern and changing face.

Some robberies against foreign journalists, though, have soured the atmosphere and sent a reminder of local crime levels worse than almost anywhere outside a war-zone.

In the latest incident, Chinese journalists were robbed in their car, embassy officials said on Thursday. That followed a pre-dawn raid on some Spanish and Portuguese journalists while they were sleeping in their hotel.

In another negative for the tournament, an extraordinary injury list keeps getting longer with huge names in global football from David Beckham to Nani missing out.

The latest injury worry was Switzerland captain Alex Frei, who is doubtful for their opener against Spain next week after hurting an ankle in training.

In the camp of little-fancied Slovakia, it was a family affair as coach Vladimir Weiss sought to avoid any accusations of favoritism toward his son and player of the same name.

“I am very strict with him, much stricter with him than other players,” the coach told Reuters on the training pitch in Pretoria. Grandfather Weiss, who also played for the national side and has the same name, enjoys the easiest job now.

“He is sitting at home waiting to watch the matches on television,” the coach said.

Millions worldwide are doing exactly the same.

In South Africa, ΓÇ¿soccer dreams do come true

The Dreamfields project provides soccer equipment and playing fields to poor school children to celebrate the World Cup South African boys are given new soccer cleats and outfits, provided by the Dreamfields Project, and take part in a tournament in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa. Dreamfields is also building soccer fields in poor areas.

The boys come from townships and rural schools where there is hardly enough money to pay for books, let alone sports equipment. But by the time the morning is done, each boy will have had his moment on the soccer pitch, sharing one little bit of the excitement that has overtaken this country as the 2010 FIFA World Cup games begin.

Organized by a local charity called the Dreamfields Project, the tournament is part of an effort to create a level playing field ΓÇô as it were ΓÇô for sports in a sports-mad country where, unfortunately, there is not equal access to something as simple as playtime. Backed by 50 large companies and 100 small companies, the Dreamfields Project has organized hundreds of similar soccer tournaments around the country, handing out some 20,000 soccer uniforms and pairs of shoes, and giving children a reason to hope that they can excel at sports.

ΓÇ£ItΓÇÖs about dreaming; not every day is going to be just like the day before,ΓÇ¥ says John Perlman, founder and director of the Dreamfields Project, watching two teams compete for their chance at a trophy.

ΓÇ£If children get positive recognition, they have to go in search of more, and so this thing will continue,ΓÇ¥ Mr. Perlman adds. ΓÇ£Children in Vanderbijlpark have a right to play sports; they have a right to a day ΓÇ¿like this.ΓÇ¥

Brainiac bacteria

Leaving your children outside to play in the dirt could increase their learning abilities. This is according to new research presented at the 110th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in San Diego. Dorothy Matthews and her colleague Susan Jenks conducted an experiment where they exposed mice to the bacteria known as Mycobacterium vaccae (M. vaccae).

Matthews explained that previous studies showed that M. vaccae injected into mice stimulated growth of some neurons in the brain; this  resulted in increased levels of serotonin and decreased anxiety.
“Since serotonin plays a role in learning we wondered if live M. vaccae could improve learning in mice,” says Matthews.
In their experiment they had two groups of mice. They fed the one group M. vassae and kept to a regular diet with the other group. The mice fed with bacteria were able to navigate a maze much faster than the mice not exposed to the bacteria.
In a second experiment Matthews removed the bacteria. The mice still completed the maze faster than the regular mice but the results were not as outstanding. Matthews explains her experiment showed that the bacteria had a temporary effect on the mice and, as time went by and they were not exposed to the bacteria, they were unable to perform as well as when they were exposed to it.
Matthews said this research suggests that M. vaccae may play a role in anxiety and learning in mammals.
“It is interesting to speculate that creating learning environments in schools that include time in the outdoors where M. vaccae is present may decrease anxiety and improve the ability to learn new tasks,” she said.

Duimsuig ‘n natuurlike aanwendsel

Algemene probleme by pasgeborenes is onderontwikkelde organe, wat baie by bykomende stamselle kan baat, meen Sanberg.
